PROLOGUE

"Harder Scarlet!" My dad shouted as I kicked and kicked harder to break the wood which he used as a punching bag. My feet hurt but I have to keep going or else he will punish me again. It'll be much worse than this. I don’t want it.

"Is that all you got, Scarlet?!" He said with a disappointed look on his face so I kicked a lot harder. When I felt that the wood was going to break, I kicked with all my strength. The force I gave in to the log made it break into two pieces.

I sat on the chair not so far away, feeling my foot throbbing in pain. I've been kicking that fucking log for more than 30 minutes.

"30-minute rest and your real training begins," my father said, full of seriousness as if my work was nothing for him.

For fuck's sake that was just a warm up! I did not say a word and headed to the bench. It’s a good thing that I still managed to walk despite my swollen foot. One of our housemaids walked towards me with a first aid kit in her hands. For a normal person it will take months for it to heal but for me, a week is enough.

"Are you sure you're okay, Heiress?" The maid said with a worried look. This training is only once a week so I can recover.

I rested there for a couple while when my phone rang. "Hello?" I asked.

"Good morning, Lady Scarlett. I'm here to inform you that the dresses will be arriving tomorrow at exactly 10 am. You can choose whatever dress you will wear," my designer said. Devora Leon, a well-known fashion designer.

"Thank you Miss Leon. I'll be expecting you," I replied and ended the call.

The sound of a loud gunshot was heard. I looked back at my dad who was holding a gun in his hand and saw his usual serious face. My training is about to begin.

"Scarlett, don't slow down!" He coldly screamed at me with his frightening looks. I tsk-ed.

Easy to say for a man who’s sitting all day. I rolled my eyes. I grabbed my semi-automatic shotgun and positioned myself to settle down. The first strike was headshot so as the second strike. I smirked at the results.

"Perfect Scarlett, my decision was right when I chose you as the Heiress," He clapped. "Dad, I don't have a brother to take your place," I uttered and rolled my eyes once more.

He slowly walked towards me and messed up my hair. "Scarlett, it’s an honor being the Heiress and marrying the King of all Mafia," he said.

"Dad, what does he look like?" I said, confused.

"No one has ever seen his face yet. He's wearing a mask in every gathering. Why are you asking?" I was a bit shocked when he asked but I didn't let it show. I’m marrying a guy they—I don't even know.

"Maybe he's old. I have no plans to be a sugar baby," I said. Dad laughed at my statement as he shook his head.

"Don’t worry. For what I’ve heard, he's the same age as you," He laughed once more. "Now go on, continue." I did what he said and continued my brutal practice.

.....

"Boss, here's your schedule for today." My secretary handed me my schedule. I extended my arms and accepted the papers.

As I walked in the hallways of my company, I noticed that some of my employees are gossiping about something and I hate it.

“Do you know it's forbidden to talk during work hours?" I said behind them. Hearing my voice frightened the hell out of them as they turned pale. I was about to let them pass this time when I noticed someone. Unlike the others, she’s not even looking at me, ignoring my presence as if I was nothing to her.

"B-Boss,” She stammered. I smiled.

"Is your resignation letter ready?" I said in a gentle voice. I can see the fear in her eyes as she swallowed hard. "Oh forget that-- your fired," and with that, I left her crying.

When I arrived at the office, I looked at the documents that I had to check and sign. I was in the middle of signing the papers when the telephone beside me rang loudly. The voice of my secretary greeted me as I answered the call.

"Hello, good afternoon. This is Delfiero Corporation. Who am I speaking to?" Courtesy of my secretary.

"Boss, It's Don Delfiero." I asked my secretary to forward the call to me and he obediently followed.

"Buenos días Abuelito," I said. It’s a Spanish greeting that means good morning.

"How's my beautiful Scarlett?" the Don answered from the other line. I smiled.

"Abuelito do you want me to prepare lots of chocolates when you get back," I responded.

"I'd love that. I have to go, Beautiful Scarlett. Your Abuelita is raging mad again Hahaha! I have to go now," I said as I ended the call.

"Laureto, can you re-check my schedule," I asked my secretary.

"I prefer you calling me Dylan, Boss," We both chuckled.

"Talking Back huh?"

"Pft. Just call me Dylan... Alliare," he said. I looked daggers at him as irritation started to build up inside me. Calling me by my second name again. Argh.

"Pft. Calm down. I’m just joking," he laughed. "You have a meeting with the board at 1 pm then at 3 pm, you have a meeting with Mr. Alcazar." I nodded at him as I watched his back walking out of my office.

Dylan, my secretary, is one of my close friends. He knows me but not the real me. I’m Scarlett Alliare Delfiero. I’m someone everyone hates rather than admire.
