"Thank you..." I felt the weight of the events crashing down and I looked away.
"Babe you don't have to thank me. Well, if you really want to, we can go and get an extremely late dinner tonight, go back to my place..." He trailed off and I smiled and shook my head.
"How about free coffee for a month." I offered, and he just raised a brow before looking around.
"Why did he want you?" He asked.
"Apparently my father ruined his life." Lucien looked at me and carefully eyed me.
"Jacqueline Oswald, you own the place correct?" The other officer came over asking and I just nodded and looked at him.
"Yes." I added when he didn't seem to get that I nodded.
"How long have you been in this area?" He asked, and I felt Lucien grab my hip one more time.
"About 4 years. I can try and get in contact with my father and give you the information. That way you can send him the final sketch and see who he is since he obviously knew my father." I told Officer Jacobs and I just saw him give me an incredulous look like he couldn't comprehend what I was talking about.
"Why is your father out of your life?"
"That would be a personal matter that you don't need information about." I snapped, and he just gave me a look and then moved to face Martinez.
"I think we're almost done here."
"What? You didn't talk to everyone." I said and saw all the customers lining up like they wanted to help.
"Well, you two are the ones who interacted with him. We will take the gun and set up a time for you both to come down to the station and make a sketch. We will try and get in touch with your father once you find that information. It's not our fault you don't have cameras to make this easier to identify him." Excuse me?
"Why don't you run his prints from the gun." I offered out but they just shrugged.
"Luke here probably smeared them all, but I guess we could check- "
"You guess? Take my prints. Rule me out, check the other ones through military personnel since he knows her father. Not that hard." Lucien snapped and squeezed my side slightly and I watched him glare at the cops.
"We are trying to do our job. Don't try and do it for us." I heard Jacobs slur something about him being a dirty biker and I made a move towards him, but Lucien's hand turned into an arm around my waist holding me still.
"Chill hot shot. He aint the first and he won't be the last." Lucien touched my cheek with his finger and I just worked my jaw. "My boys will take care of this." He whispered to me and I turned into him.
"They'll get him." I shrugged out of his embrace and he looked at the cops as they asked a couple more questions to the other people.
"Why does he want you babe?" He asked me, and I just looked around again.
"No clue." I muttered and sighed. "But I am closing up early." I told him and moved to go into the back again, so I could start to put things away.
"Boss?" I heard Jenny call out and I looked at her as I set the scones down.
"What honey?" I asked her, and she nibbled her lip.
"Can I... I know I should help but with- "
"Jenny. You can go home. Have the rest of the week off. I don't think I will open tomorrow." I told her, and she nodded, and I saw tears drip down as she started to fiddle with her fingers. "Jenny." I called, and she finally looked up at me.
"Yes?"
"I would never let you get hurt. That is why I put myself in front of you. Take the time off, I'll pay you still." I rubbed over her shoulder and gave her a quick hug.
"Okay." She pulled back and wiped her face. I let her collect her things before I finished up with putting things away and I made a couple signs that said we would be closed tomorrow and the rest of today.
Once I was done, I realized that the café space was void of almost all of the people from before. I put up the signs as I felt Lucien watching me. "I am sure you can leave." I turned back to him when I saw the cops finally take off.
"I'll walk you to the car." Lucien walked towards me, his entire demeanor oozed alpha male and I knew even if I said I was fine he would follow me out.
"I don't have a car." I told him, and he just looked confused. "I live just a couple blocks away." I told him and that seemed to upset him some more.
"Do you have a car that you can use until this guy is taken care of?" He asked me, and I shook my head.
"Last time I had a car it was before I got this café." I told him, and he nodded and worked his jaw.
"Okay babe, I will take you home. We'll work out a schedule when we get there."
"You don't have to do that." I smiled at him sweetly, knowing this might work on my brother but for Lucien he just crossed his arms.
"Babe I don't think you get what is happening. That man came in here, not to rob you, not to kill you, but to take you with him. He will be back. And when he tries, I will take care of him. But until then, bet your sweet hot ass that I am your new bodyguard." He looked me up and down and I just felt myself flush.
"I don't need-"
"Yes, you do. I will camp outside and drive behind you as you walk."
"Lucien." I shook my head and he smirked.
"I love the sound of my name on your lips." He took a step closer to me. "Wonder how you sound in bed... would you moan or scream?" He asked, and I just bit my lip and gulped. I felt myself getting hot and bothered as my mind went back to the last time, I had sex. 9 months was a long time. And Lucien... he was sex on a stick and looking at me like I was his next meal. Deep down, if he wasn't wearing those dog tags, I knew I would let him.
"Alright. Take me home." I said and moved to lean over the counter and grabbed my purse, my keys from the register and turned back to see him looking at my legs and ass. "Pig." I muttered as I passed him, and he laughed.
"Oink." He teased behind me and I opened the door and let him out first before closing it behind me and locking up. I grabbed the links and locked that as well before turning to see him on his bike, holding out his helmet for me. "Come on chick." He waved it at me, and I just shook my head slightly as I walked closer and took it from him.
"Turn left on Canal." I told him as he started to turn with the traffic.
